WWE Live in the UK: November 2010 review (DVD) ★★

Review by Adam Stephen Kelly
UK Certification 15 | UK RRP £19.99 | DVD Region 2 | Runtime 250 minutes

I still fail to see the point of these Live in the UK DVDs. I just do not get why they are worth buying. These twice-yearly two-disc releases solely include the week of WWE TV from the respective UK tour, and are greatly missing the likes of any behind the scenes features that detail the lives of the Superstars as they travel across the kingdom. What is the appeal of owning such episodes of RAW, NXT, Superstars and SmackDown just a few months after their original transmissions just because of where they emanated from? I implore the WWE to give us more content on these particular releases as they really are not worth the purchase. From the perspective of a viewer, they just seem entirely pointless unless you're a real die-hard collector of WWE TV shows, in which case these action-packed DVDs may just be right up your street.

RAW

The first television show of the UK tour kicked off with John Cena stood in the ring reading aloud a speech written by Nexus leader Wade Barrett, introducing him as inevitably the next WWE Champion as of Survivor Series , which at this point was just two weeks away. Barrett came out to a mixed ovation in his hometown of Manchester and set the theme of the night with RAW revolving around the Nexus/Cena/Randy Orton storyline and doing a good job of building to the pay-per-view, which if you remember is the complete opposite of what happened back in April in England when you'd never have guessed that Extreme Rules was just around the corner. Cena found himself doing Barrett's bidding in a match against fellow stable member David Otguna, while also being added into a huge tag team main event as the special guest referee in a little preview of his role in the WWE Title match at Survivor Series.

Aside from the WWE Championship picture, RAW was a half-decent show that included some brief matches, a ridiculous football-themed Divas outing, and a goofy, slightly funny tea party segment with Sheamus as the guest of Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov.

Monday Night RAW featured the following matches:

Divas Cup Tag Team Match: Eve Torres & The Bella Twins vs. Alicia Fox, Tamina & Maryse
The Hart Dynasty vs. The Usos
Goldust vs. Ted DiBiase
John Cena vs. David Otunga
Santino Marella vs. Sheamus
10-Man Tag Team Match: Randy Orton, R-Truth, Daniel Bryan, Mark Henry & The Miz vs. The Nexus

NXT

The third season of NXT continued on in the UK as four rookie Divas were left to duke it out in matches and challenges (an arm wrestling contest and guess-the-Superstar photo quiz) to see who would be faced with elimination from the competition and who would be granted immunity. This season really was pretty bad but I still tuned in each and every week just to listen to Michael Cole and Josh Mathews' absolutely hilarious commentary, and they're both in fine form on this particular episode.

Aside from the couple of challenges, these two matches made up the NXT card:

Nikki Bella vs. A.J.
Naomi vs. Aksana

Superstars

Just your average episode of Superstars: three matches divided up by video packages recapping pivitol events that took place on RAW and NXT. The action includes great little encounters between the gravity-defying winner of NXT's second season, Kaval and Drew McIntyre, as well as Zack Ryder against Yoshi Tatsu. Despite being on a 'minor' show, these were just about the best matches of all the WWE's programming from that week.

Zack Ryder vs. Yoshi Tatsu
Ezekiel Jackson vs. Primo
Drew McIntyre vs. Kaval

SmackDown

The SmackDown story of the autumn really got rolling on this edition of the Friday night show when Edge kidnapped Paul Bearer and began World Heavyweight Champion Kane's month-long goose chase quite literally around the world. But that was after the Rated-R Superstar battled David Otunga in a match that would determine whether the “A-List” performer was to be ex-communicated from The Nexus after a series of major losses. Yet again the formidable group dominated another show and pretty much painted the UK tour's worth of television black and yellow.

Alberto Del Rio vs. Kofi Kingston
Natalya vs. Layla
Lumberjack Match: Edge vs. David Otunga
Intercontinental Championship: Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Montel Vontavious Porter
Kane vs. The Big Show

EXTRAS ? The first disc includes the only special feature on this release, which is The Undertaker vs. Kane from Mayhem in Manchester in April 1998.
