I've never been an obsessive Two and a Half Men fan, but have caught the odd episode here and there, and chuckled along at the formulaic sitcom shenanigans and had the infectious theme tune stuck in my head for days (weeks?!) on end.
After watching series seven in its entirety I can safely say I'm now an obsessive fan. At first I was struck by annoying Auntie syndrome - hasn't Jake grown! Is he really old enough to be dating? Then my addiction took over, the star-studded cast, brilliant writing and humour is right up my alley.
Charlie (Charlie Sheen), Alan (Jon Cryer) and Jake (Angus Jones) all perform wonderfully as Charlie and Chelsea's romance battles through various typical sitcom problems (come on Charlie, at least memorise her phone number, she’s your fiancé!) Alan continues to have no luck dating (perhaps if he stopped professing his love for Celine Dion? Just a suggestion) and Jake gets into girls (he's all grown up! Will series eight just be called Three Men?!).
It may be just another sitcom, but it has a winning recipe of witty one-liners, loveable characters, light-hearted storylines and a guest appearance from Jane Lynch. The DVD boxset features 22 half hour episodes.
EXTRAS ★★½ An amusing gag reel and A Harper EX Reunion.
