He's best remembered (and best loved) for the iconic Back to the Future trilogy, but back in the 80s, Fox had another role that is fondly remembered by many. However, Scott Howard is certainly not as well known as Marty McFly.

And that's a shame, because there are a lot of similarities between the two characters. Both are a little shy and awkward; both have weird best friends; and both have slightly strange parents. But there's also one big difference: Scott Howard happens to be a werewolf.

Yeah, it's a puberty thing. And inherited – Scott's dad (Hampton) is also a wolf. And the film also doesn't seem to really follow the traditional werewolf rules – Scott seems to be able to "wolf out" at will, not just at a full moon, which makes him the star of his school's basketball team. He's also a hit with the girls, which gives a whole new meaning to the term "doggy style".

The film itself is cheesy, corny and not all that good. But it's hilariously entertaning nonetheless, thanks mainly to the charming, lovable performance from Fox – who shot Teen Wolf straight after the first Back to the Future, while also filming his Family Ties TV show. It's also rather risque for a teen comedy – there are hints of sex, and drug use (well, a little dope smoking). And, worst of all, "surfing" on top of a moving vehicle! But despite its faults, Teen Wolf has a decent message at its heart: the cruelty of high school, and the difficulty of social acceptance. And it's also a reminder of just how terrific an actor Michael J Fox really is.

EXTRAS ★ Disappointing – just the theatrical trailer, and a promo for the new Teen Wolf TV series (which looks pretty decent).
