Every year once winter rolls around, the Black List is released, which consists of, to quote the list itself, the "most liked" 50 screenplays floating around Hollywood rather than the "best" that haven't been produced. On the 2010 Black List, Max Landis's superhero spec script Chronicle was ranked high as the 16th most appreciated script. It was picked up by Fox in August. To give you a taste of what is to come, here's the logline that summarises his screenplay.

"Three Portland teens become exposed to a mysterious substance in the woods, and, as a result, begin to develop incredible powers. They work together to hone their skills for fun, until personal and family problems begin to turn them against one another."

Max, the son of cinema legend John Landis, will look to shake things up in the superhero genre with Chronicle in 2011, but what about 2010? Why, here are his favourite movies of the year:

Daybreakers A fun, imaginative and most importantly NEW premise deftly and stylishly executed.

Four Lions This is simply the funniest film in recent memory. Dark genius.

Date Night KILLSHOT! This movie deserves more love than it got, both box office and critically.

Toy Story 3 When you're crying from the opening of a movie until the last scene, and it didn't rape you, you're watching Toy Story 3.

Step Up 3D Despite all its myriad flaws, Step Up has, without sarcasm, hyperbole or exaggeration, the best dancing and the best 3D I have EVER SEEN. REALLY fun movie. Watch with your friends. BFAB.
