I really don't know how to start this review. The concept sounded intriguing, the world is ending and we get to see how various different people live out their last day and night on earth. Not exactly original or groundbreaking, but interesting nevertheless. Only it wasn't interesting. Or intriguing. And it seemed to think it was some kind of 1920s horror movie with weird Psycho-esque music piercing the background every so often. Seriously.

I had hope for Sandra Oh, who is brilliant in Grey's Anatomy and was charming in Sideways, however even she doesn't work out well at all. She plays a character trying to get home to her husband after her car is stolen but then ends up ready to commit suicide with a guy she befriends and then they kiss at the end, snore. The others party, pray and have sex. Very original and enthralling reactions to the end of the world I know.

Last Night lacks the direction, script and talent of films from seemingly similar genres such as Lost in Translation, Sideways or even Jennifer Aniston's Friends with Money. There is no explanation for why the world is ending, or how everyone knows beyond a doubt that is it indeed ending. It fails to make the audience care about the fate or lives of the characters and is unsuccessful in evoking the emotion other ‘end of the world’ films do, like the tragically sad, yet immensely satisfying, The Road.

It’s described as a something of a thriller. Although I was certainly not left thrilled, I did at least feel one emotion – sadness that I’d been cheated out of 92 minutes of my life.
