Making People Laugh marks comedian Jimmy Carr's sixth live show DVD. Recorded while on tour earlier this year at the Clyde Auditorium in Glasgow, Scotland, the show is truly an excellent two-hour fix for craic addicts everywhere.
If you're well accustomed to Carr's sense of boundary-breaking humour, none of the many gags about the likes of rape and death on his winning crusade to offend will shock you – unless you were particularly fond of Princess Diana – but as well as making you bust a gut, you'll have a blast watching and listening to the audience's reactions as they chase their laughs with sounds indicant of their own personal surprise at finding such touchy subjects funny. Carr himself even picks up on this on the show and refers to it as “comedy schizophrenia”. In the case of you not yet having discovered Jimmy's racier jokes, we'll laugh at you as you burst into hysterics and then cringe in shame.
Making People Laugh does exactly what it says on the tin. It's hilarious, edgy, foul-mouthed and brimming with razor-sharp wit. The effervescent Carr never fails to deliver with his annual DVD releases and this is no different. It's a triumphant return to the jocular stage that'll have you in tears.
EXTRAS ★★★ Famous People: a segment cut from the main feature with Jimmy cracking jokes about celebrities; Meeting & Greeting: Carr interacts with fans after the show; and Just for Laughs: the comedian's three full performances from the 2003, 2006 and 2007 Comedy Central Just for Laughs festivals.
