This will not go down as one of the best comedies of the year; in fact, it’s not even a great film. But in the time of films like The Heartbreak Kid, there are enough chuckles to be had here to raise a smile, if not many laugh-out-loud moments. The Solomon brothers are an unlucky pair of losers. They manage to stumble through life following a happy go lucky philosophy that their father has imparted on them, and when he is taken seriously ill, they are set to fulfill one of his final wishes ... to see his first grandchild. Being very bad in the romantic stakes, the brothers eventually find a willing surrogate who will give birth to a child, and in the process another woman enters their lives.
The other woman in question is Malin Akerman, last seen in the aforementioned Farrelly brothers comedy, and it is a real shame to see such a talented star in another failure. The lead roles are played by the familiar Will Arnett and not-so-familiar Will Forte, who actually do quite well in unchallenging roles. The film lacks any real standout moments, and is bland enough to wash over most casual viewers without too much fuss. You can certainly live without seeing this, and could spend the time doing a lot better ... but perhaps worth a look when it reaches the DVD shelves?
